Preparing your taxes doesn't have to be complicated, but it does require having the right information on hand from day one. Here are the most common documents our clients need to file their return without any hiccups.
1. ID and Social Security Number or ITIN
We need a valid official ID, as well as the Social Security Number or ITIN of each person who will appear on the return, including dependents.
2. Income Forms (W-2, 1099, etc.)
If you worked as an employee, your employer must send you a W-2. If you were self-employed or received other types of income, you'll likely receive one or more 1099 forms.
3. Dependent Information
Full name, date of birth, and Social Security Number or ITIN for each dependent you plan to include on your return.
4. Proof of Deductible Expenses
Medical expenses, donations, mortgage interest, or business-related expenses can help reduce your tax burden. Keep your receipts throughout the year.
5. Banking Information
If you're expecting a refund, having your account and routing number on hand speeds up direct deposit.
If you're not sure which documents apply to your situation, at Professional Taxes Digital we'll help you identify them during your process, 100% online and in your language.
